30 Days of Clean Eating: Confessions

The Challenge: 30 Days of Clean Eating

The Reason: Add more fruits and veggies into my diet to create a healthier me.

My Progress: Day 21

I had purchased a cake mix only a couple days prior to the start of my challenge (first mistake) and it had been just sitting there in the pantry taunting me during my challenge. I had been going along feeling so good about my progress and my daily rejection towards the cake mix. I was tempted many times, but never gave in. I had successfully been working out those willpower muscles, until day 15 of my challenge. I was half way through, feeling good about myself, doing really well with my clean eating habits and then it hit me....boredom. How often is boredom the source of overeating or overindulging? All too often. There was nothing on T.V., I couldn't be bothered to do homework, Ben was out of town so spending time with him was not an option, what was I to do? Bake the cake of course!

I pre-heated the oven, gathered the ingredients all the while ignoring the little voice in my head saying, 'don't do it." I whipped up the cake mix and before I knew it, I had a cake baking in the oven and I was sitting on the couch licking out the bowl that held the glorious left over cake batter. Thirty minutes later the timer went off and I cut out a massive slice from the middle of the cake and topped it with a large helping of frosting. After my slice was eaten, I am ashamed to admit I had another. I knew I couldn't keep going back for more so I actually threw the rest of the cake away. Do I at least get points for that??

Day 15 was only the first day to  a week of slip-ups and bad eating choices. I don't recall all that I ate, but I do remember that it wasn't my best week of the challenge. I let things slide, wasn't nearly as strict with my diet, ate chocolate and take-away and felt the worse for it. Anytime I have attempted to eat sugar during my challenge, the aftermath was sickness. My stomach has become so sensitive to the foods I choose to feed it. I see this as a positive.

Although I haven't been perfect on my cleanse,  I have noticed that my sugar cravings have subsided and my need for coffee is gone. In fact, when I often consider getting a coffee it is no longer appealing and I end up with a fresh juice instead. This last few days I have been devouring various salads and have found that eating a salad doesn't mean having to eat the exact same thing each time. I have been experimenting with greens, using beetroot for the first time, adding fetta cheese, discovered a new truffle infused olive oil that has livened up my salads, and am getting more creative. I am now heading into my final week of the challenge, and am overall happy with my progress so far.

How are you doing?
